Magnum™ EX (2. Generation) – Making a Good Magnet Plate Great

The second generation of the successful Magnum™ EX Universal Magnet Plate retains the powerful features of the original while adding impressive new capabilities:

  • Removable corner tabs that are easily replaced in case of damage or interference
  • Solid aluminum construction to support workflows where temperature control is desired (up to 80ºC)
  • Much improved PAQLOC® Spring Lock to quickly change between bench and liquid handler

And as always:

  • Spring cushion technology for easy automation
  • Strong N50 ring magnets for rapid separation even of viscous or high-volume reactions
  • Handles anything from PCR plates to full volume deep well plates

Up to 2x Faster Separation

Powerful N50-grade ring magnets enable the Magnum EX Magnet plate to separate beads up to twice as fast as our 96S Super Magnet Plate.

Charts below show percent recovery versus time
Various volumes of a magnetic bead reagent were added to a standard 96-well PCR or deep-well microplate, respectively, and placed on the Magnum FLX, Magnum EX, 96S Super Magnet or LE Magnet Plate. Percent recovery over time was determined using spectrophotometry.

Designed with Automation in Mind

SBS footprint and elevated base for maximum liquid handler compatibility, and integrated Spring Cushion Technology

Why do I need Spring Cushion Technology?

Alpaqua microplates with integrated Spring Cushion Technology give way when tips come in contact with a well bottom, thus compensating for physical tolerances between labware and pipettors that can compromise precision aspiration.

  • Protects instruments & consumables
  • Improves pipetting consistency
  • Maximizes usage of reagents & samples
  • Minimizes tip vacuum & head contamination
  • Accelerates automated method development

Magnum™ EX
(2. Generation) FAQs

I was wondering if the original Magnum EX plate will be discontinued now that you have a second generation?

+
Scientific Papers will be added soon.

Above: Thanks to the improved PAQLOC Spring Lock, the new Magnum EX plate can be used with the spring cushion enabled (left), which is helpful in automated workflows, or without springs as a solid magnet plate on the lab bench. In the closed state (right), the magnet can be placed on a Peltier chiller or heater, and the efficient heat transfer provided by the solid aluminum construction will help keep your samples at the perfect temperature for your application.

Left: Anyone who has ever dropped their magnet plate and broken a corner will appreciate the removable corner tabs. Not only are they easily replaced in case of damage, they can be individually removed to make room for a robotic gripper that might otherwise have trouble getting around it.
