Proprietary Slotted Ring Magnets – Pipette with Confidence!

The unique architecture of the slotted ring magnet was designed with manual users in mind. It concentrates magnetic beads in opposing arches near the bottom of microplate wells. This allows greater flexibility in removing supernatants, thus minimizing inadvertent bead loss due to variations of individual pipetting techniques which improves overall application consistency.

  • Slotted magnet architecture sequesters beads in two opposing arches allowing tip tracking down well walls during manual pipetting.

    Eliminate inadvertent bead aspiration

  • Magnets can be rotated to work by row or by column.

  • Optimized for manual pipetting, yet SBS footprint for robot compatibility.

  • Innovative design for quality, speed, and ease of use.

The NEST Scientific 48-well Deep Well Plates

  • Staggered well design
  • Each well holds up to 3.5 ml, perfect for protocols that require that little bit of extra volume
  •  48 well format bridges the gap between 96-deep well plates (<2.2 mL) and 24-well plates (<8-10 mL)
  • Well to well spacing is 18 mm, so multichannel pipettes can be used by skipping every other tip
  • Bead sequestration is faster in 48-well format compared to 96-well deep well microplates plate because the liquid column is approximately half the height
  • 11 mm well diameter, making visualization of pipette tips easy
  • Available in sterile and non-sterile versions

Please note, effective 1/1/2024 Alpaqua no longer sells these plates directly, but they are available from various retailers:

Catalyst™ 48 FAQs

Does the Catalyst 48 contain Spring Cushion Technology?

No. Catalyst magnet plates are designed for manual use.  Customer feedback indicated that the additional ‘give’ of the plate upon tips reaching the bottom of the well afforded by Spring Cushion Technology was unnecessary when using manually.

Can I use Catalyst plates for automated magnet bead separations?

Absolutely.  While the slotted ring magnet format was designed to address manual user concerns, Catalyst plates have a standard SBS footprint and are fully compatible with most robotic platforms.

Please note that Catalyst plates do not have integrated Spring Cushion Technology which is beneficial when used on robotic platforms to compensate for Z’ position variability.
